5XR Track Tip: To get the most out of your 1.6L Spec Miata it will be necessary to have your air flow meter professionally tuned by a reputable shop, and use it with an SP Induction Systems intake mounted with the SP Spin Bracket. To make sure your air/fuel ratio is where it should be, you will need to have an air/fuel ratio meter setup in real time to monitor the mixture while you are at race speeds on track. We aim to tune our meters to be running 13 to 1 while at 5000-7000 rpm's, and this is made possible by turning your air flow meter on its axis to dial in the a/f ratio. Turn the black plastic of your meter towards the engine to richen the mixture, and turn the black plastic towards the fender to lean it out. We have our meter turned almost vertical using the SP Spin Bracket with the black plastic towards the fender to achieve 13 to 1 ratio. We use an Innovate Motorsports DB Air/Fuel Ratio Gauge / LC-1 Wideband Kit to measure our air/fuel ratio in real time. Your results may vary depending on the atmosphere and weather, and the use of an air/fuel ratio is necessary to accurately know the mixture.
