When the data acquisition systems priced for the grassroots racing market started hitting the shelves and racetracks across the world, naturally it wouldn't be too long before quality video recording systems would follow. In recent years we have seen the implementation of several tiers of video recording systems being used in racecars at our local races. At first it was the handheld video camera mounted to the roll bar, which offered decent video quality but was cumbersome in both size and media usage (mini DV tapes, ugh!). Then it there was the higher end Chase Cam type system, which used lipstick cameras connected to a digital recording device. These types of systems are great in both video quality and features, but came at a great cost to the racer in terms of price. At last, we saw the invention of the "mini video" cameras, such as the Hero Cam. These systems are just the right balance of price, video quality, size, and features. They can be had for less than $300, record onto simple media cards, and are super easy to use unlike the more expensive super systems used in earlier years. As a racecar driver you would be crazy not to install at least a mini video camera setup in your car, being able to review your on track performance along with analyzing data from one of our RLC Chase Commanders will award you seconds in lap times. You can't even buy track time for the price of some of our video systems, check them out!
