5X Racing Sport Bump Stop Kits for 1990-1997 Miata

Miata Bump Stops

20921909 - 5XRNA46/36

Our Sport kits are the evolution of the legendary Fat Cat Motorsports "Sport" Bump Stop kits. Instead of using the cutoff lower portion of the 76mm Blue bump stops to create the 36mm front bump stop used in the Fat Cat Kits, we recreated their awesome kits with our own specially molded 36mm bump stop in three different densities so you can further fine tune your ride characteristics. Please continue reading the Product Description below to learn more about our unique bump stops and what they are recommended for, and how to choose the density that best matches your desired use.

  • Fits 1990-1997 Mazda Miata's with OEM, OEM replacement shocks (ie: Bilstein, Koni, etc...), or any shock with no larger than a 5/8" shaft. Kit's are configured to work with specific shocks using washers and spacers (to eliminate shock shaft bottoming on certain shocks)
  • Kit includes: two 36mm bump stops for the front with your choice of density (soft, medium, hard) and two 46mm "comfort" bump stops for the rear, four fender washers applicable to your shock choice, and applicable shock spacers for certain shocks
  • Completely replaces the factory bump stops and works with existing shock hats and shock mounting hardware
  • Designed as an upgrade to the factory rubber bump stops and a middle-ground between the Street and 36mm kits we offer. Recommended for most off-the-shelf lowering springs such as: Tein S-tech, Eibach, Racing Beat, H&R, or Flyin Miata
  • Proven Fat Cat Motorsports design and technology

  • Availability: Normally in-stock
    Pricing: $100.00

    Description

A must-have for any performance oriented driver looking to get more out of their aftermarket suspension setup. Our kits are an integrated package (not just a part) and are designed for your particular setup, including washers and spacers (when needed, to limit travel and protect certain shocks susceptible to mechanical bottoming). We took these kits one step further by adding the option of three different densities of front 36mm bump stops so you can further custom tune your ride characteristics. With our choice of soft, medium, or hard 36mm front bump stops, a driver can now tune their lowered suspension with the bump stop densities to achieve different balance profiles. By using a soft, medium, or hard front bump stop, you can balance your car in different ways when handling limits are pushed. Here is a rundown of our options and how the choice of bump stops effect your vehicles handling profile:
  • Sport Yellow (soft) Kits: The Yellow kits contain our special 100 in/lb Yellow (soft) 36mm bump stops, which are designed for drivers who desire a comfortable ride quality and want the car to have slightly less bias towards understeer then the factory intended, but still understeer at the limit. Best suited for those who daily drive and have a lowered suspension mostly for looks, but want to have a comfortable ride
  • Sport Blue (medium) Kits: The Blue kits contain our special 200 in/lb Blue (medium) 36mm bump stops which are designed for drivers who desire a sporty ride quality. Best "all-around" choice suitable for street/sport/auto-x use. These will bias the car more towards a neutral balance and are perfect for an enthusiastic driver who wants to drive spirited, but maintain a more compliant ride quality for the majority of driving time
  • Sport Black (Hard) Kits: The Black kits contain our special 300 in/lb Black (hard) 36mm bump stops which are designed for a driver who desires the ability to "throw the car around" better, perhaps during an auto-x event or track event. These kits are replicas of the original Fat Cat Sport kits, which were best suited for those who want to balance the car towards having more oversteer, counteracting the natural built-in tendency of the Miata to want to understeer.

Partnering with Fat Cat Motorsports allowed us access to their proven engineering and techniques on how to custom tune your suspension by way of bump stops. When the average person thinks about suspension, they think springs, shocks, and bushings. Bumpstops are the "cushion" between the shock body and the shock mount, without them the metal shock body would come in contact with the metal shock mount during full shock compression causing damage, and a terrible ride! The factories take bumpstops into consideration, however they tune them to be used with factory shocks and springs and often use inferior materials like rubber (which is unforgiving when compressed) or lower quality MCU (micro-cell urethanes) which can't handle the thermal loads as the higher quality MCU bump stops we use. When you start customizing your suspension by replacing the shocks and springs, the factory bumpstops now become mis-matched to the rest of your suspension. Most people will try and reuse the factory bumpstops, but this will not yield optimal handling characteristics because of the now lower and shorter suspension travel plus lower bump stop quality. When you upgrade your springs and shocks to lower your car or if you simply want to improve the handling and durability of your stock suspension, bumpstops can be the "missing link" in your suspension that you never thought of!
