Spec Miata Parts: SP Spin Bracket Installation Instructions

5x Racing Installation Guide: SP Spin Bracket

Congratulations on your purchase of a unique Spec Miata part from 5x Racing. The SP Spin Bracket is designed to allow static rotation of the air flow meter on your 1990-1993 1.6L Mazda Miata. We recommend using the SP Induction Systems SPX 1.6 Intake system along with the SP Spin Bracket to ensure proper fit and finish. Rotating your air flow meter alters the air fuel ratio of the engine by using gravity to pull the gate inside the meter one way or the other. Depending on which way it is rotated, the mixture will go either lean or rich by a small margin. Rotating the air flow meter should be used as a means of fine tuning the air fuel ratio, it will not have enough impact on the meter to acheive the optimum air fuel ratio for a 1.6L miata. You should have your air flow meter professionally tuned to get it close to the optimum ratio of 13.5 to 1, then use the SP Spin Bracket to dial it in from there. Please contact us if you need to have your air flow meter tuned. Please use the following installation guide as a suggested method, as each car may differ in fitment and it will be necessary to try different configurations.

    1. Remove the factory intake pipe that is attached to the meter, air flow meter, attachment means and hardware for previous intake system.
    2. Install the SP Spin Bracket mount to the car using the rearward hole behind the headlight assembly, with the "L" portion of the mount facing the shock mount/firewall. Be certain the adjustment slots are towards the drivers side fender. Leave height adjustment bolts loose enought to allow adjustment later, but tight enought to hold the meter in place.

    4. Install the air flow meter to the SP Spin Bracket, you can install it flat first to determine where your air/fuel ratio is, or if you had it set-up before just match the angle of the meter before installation. Install the bolts to the air flow meter snug but again leave them loose enough to allow for final adjustment.

    5. Re-install factory rubber intake pipe but leave the clamp loose until the desired fitment is acheived.

    6. Install the filter to the intake body, then install the intake assembly to the air flow meter. Be sure to mount your SPX Intake with the flat side down, it should be marked. Tighten the intake assembly to the meter using the factory 10mm nuts.

    7. Using the height adjustment, adjust the meter body as high as possible without causing interference with the hood. This will allow correct positioning on the intake body and filter. It might be a good idea to install a rubber cap or something to protect your intake system from rubbing on the shock top bolt if you are using 99+ bump stops.

    8. Tighten all bolts after positioning your meter in the desired angle. Be sure to use an air/fuel ratio monitoring system to see in real time on track exactly what your air/fuel ratio is, and adjust from there.
