For years now the secret has been out concerning "rolling resistance" on Spec Miata racecars. With such low horsepower output, the Miata needs as little opposing force as possible to allow the engine to use it's full potential. When the car can roll easier, the engine see less load and in turn isn't losing horsepower to sticky chassis components (like brakes and hub bearings). Think of it like towing a trailer, the engine is not making less horsepower when towing, it's just being held back by resistance, so obviously there's a lot more usable horsepower available when you unhook the trailer. Even if the trailer is light, your still releasing a resistance to moving forward and therefore "freeing up" more horsepower. This theory works for the entire car too, and is why we've been rebuilding brakes and hubs that provide as little resistance to horsepower for years.

Removing the rear emergency brake mechanisms is an old practice in Spec Miata. You don't use the emergency braking system in a race car, and on top of that, the Miata has a self-adjusting emergency brake that constantly strives to keep the brake pads as close as possible to the rotors to ensure the e-brake handle does not need to be pulled up so high for the pads to grip the rotors. This is street car stuff, and what it ends up doing is causing the brake pads to drag on the rotors after the brake pedal has been released, such as when you let off the brakes going into a turn. With our blueprinting done, the rear brake pads will behave identically to the front brakes and "shoot back" away from the rotors when you release them ensuring drag-free operation. Less drag equals more usable horsepower! And we must warn, we've had customers frightened by how well our calipers work! Where a racer is used to the way their car feels, when our calipers were added, they now experienced the car "speeding up" when the brakes were released. This causes an uncomfortable feeling at first as you will no doubt be going faster through the mid-corner than you did before. Some people just aren't ready to go faster through the turns. Are you?!
