The perfect upgrade to ANY Miata!
If your shifter needs any new boots or bushings, it’s best to replace them all at the same time while you're deep within the shifter assembly. Also clean out any old fluid and gunk, and refill the turret with fresh fluid to complement the new bushings. Our kit uses Genuine OEM Mazda components with an option to upgrade to our famous race proven 5X Racing Bronze Shifter Bushing
Since it is impossible to change the washers and bushings without destroying the lower shift boot, we include this in every kit. You can re-use the upper shift boot if it is in good condition, so we give you the choice of including it in the kit or not. Use the selector on the right to configure your kit.

Description
2001-2002-up 6-SPEED OWNERS PLEASE NOTE: Mazda changed the design of the 6-speed transmission somewhere in-between the 2001 and 2002 model years. If you have a 2001-2002 6-speed , please check your VIN nameplate on the transmission to determine what shifter bushing it needs. For cars built up to 8/1/2001 and the last six digits of your VIN are BELOW 220739, order our 5XR Race Spec Shifter Rebuild Kit for 1999-2005 Mazda Miata. If your car was built after 8/1/2001 and the last six digits of your VIN are ABOVE 220738, you're on the right page.
Our Miata shifter rebuild kits use all OEM Mazda components with your option of the OEM plastic shifter tip bushing or our upgraded race proven Bronze shifter bushing. The OEM plastic bushings will eventually become brittle from the heat-cycling and break, so we of course recommend upgrading to our bronze bushing for your track or street based Miata to ensure longevity and strength where you need it the most.
NOTE! We've recently redesigned our bushings to better accommodate the wide range of tolerances in worn shifters and new shifters, which contributed to either a loose or tight fit. Previous designs incorporated a "snap-in" fit, which we also eliminated because we found a way to not need it in our new design. In the end, this current design will work best overall, as it will install easier and accommodate shifters with broken assembly bushings and boots as well.

I just finished installing this kit, plus both boots, and brass bushing, on my 2002 6speed M-edition. It was easy and the results are very impressive. The kit is mostly made up of genuine Mazda parts, but it costs a lot (~$60) less than at my local dealership. The shifter moves very smoothly now, and my transmission tunnel no longer cooks my right leg! With the upper boot torn, hot air is funnelled into the center console, and is so hot it almost burns, even on a very cold day. With the new boot, that is cured. It is SO much more comfortable in the car now. My wife, and my girlfriend love it too.
Thank you X5Racing for the awesome kit, the super fast shipping, and the great price! When these boots wear out again, in a few years, I'll definitely buy my next set here. Please consider making the upper and lower change bushings from brass too.

Best price I’ve seen while shopping around for a shifter refresh. Even though my ‘02 boots appeared to be in good condition, I noticed some rips from the inside of the boot. Replaced everything with this kit including the bronze bushing. Shifting definitely felt noticeably better and more precise, my 1st to 2nd gear change was not “crunchy” anymore, and felt more direct and smooth. This was my first order with 5x Racing and it definitely won’t be my last, their customer service is top notch and I had my package at my front door within 48 hours of ordering it.
