Description

  • "Biased Sets" are the traditional choice in Spec Miata brake pads. These biased sets tone down the rear brake bias by using one step lower of pad compound in the rear to (R8 compared to the R10 in front) and are a great choice for those who are worried about locking up the rear wheels under heavy trail braking. This combo is also a good choice for those who do not have expert braking control yet, and are more prone to "stomp" on the brakes, as the initial bite of this setup is very forgiving.
  • The "Full-Strength" set uses R10 compound pads front and rear for those who have more braking control and desire a stronger overall feel and higher initial bite. We'd recommend this setup to drivers who stomp on the brakes hard in a straight line more so than those who trail-brake, as the stronger rear pads can lock up easier than the R8 and cause the car to come around easier when the tires are cold.
  • The "Strong-Biased" sets are going one full step higher than the traditional biased sets by upping the compounds to the R12 in front and keeping the R8 in the rear. This would suit those who are extra deep trail-brakers, but want a stronger overall braking feel and a higher initial bite compared to the R10/R8 combo.
  • The "Super-Bias" sets are for those who want a super strong front pad, but still the forgiving rear control of the R8 compound. This choice would be similar to those who like Hawk Blue pads, but with less rotor wear and scary-late braking abilities. We wouldn't recommend this setup to new drivers and only to those who are experienced with the balance of a Spec Miata at a variety of track/surfaces.

If you race Spec Miata, brakes are one of the few ways to find an advantage in a class where every little thing makes the difference between seconds in lap times. If you haven't tried G-Loc brake pads yet, you owe it to yourself to get a set and see if you can use them to improve your lap times over your current brake setup. In addition to the improved wear characteristics, you will find a different experience with G-Loc brakes. If you are a heavy trail-braker, a pad with a lower initial bite like the G-Loc is going to be the route you want to take. The initial bite characteristics of the G-Loc vs. Hawk are much smoother. Where a Hawk will bite hard initially, the G-Loc will bite softer and increase in grip linearly as you near the turn-in point of the turn. We find that as we enter a braking zone behind other cars with Hawks, we will close in on them as we enter the turn, which shows us that a Hawk pad overly slows a car at the initial application of the brakes, whereas the G-Loc will not. Also for those who like to bias your brake balance by using a higher compound in the front compared to the rear, we recommend the R10 compound in the front and the RP8 compound in the rear. The choice is yours, but take our advice and try out these excellent pads!

    Comments:
These pads are the perfect match for your track/race Miata. They are very easy on the rotors, I can usually use the same front rotors for 2+ sets of pads :) The only other "race" pads I have tried were the Hawk Blue and Hawk Black with Dunlop Direzza Star Specs for endurance racing, and it was pretty easy to lock up the fronts. With the Carbotechs there is so much more modulation, it's very easy to be confident going deeper into a corner :) Highly recommend!
