5X Racing Mazdaspeed 3 Bump Stop Kit

Mazdaspeed 3 Bump Stops

20994502 - FCMMS3BSK

Did you know the Mazdaspeed 3 corners on the front bump stops, causing understeer? The factory front stops are much firmer than the rear and engage less than 1/2" from stock height. This increases the front spring rate in a corner, leading to understeer and poor ride quality. You can gain over 1.5" of suspension travel and improve ride using our 47mm front bump stops, and we also found that the rear stops are very soft and also engage during cornering. Our kit allows you to replace the front stops only or front and rear to help correct the factories reliance on using the bump stops so heavily and instead letting your shocks "breathe" a little bit. Our kit will also help free up some ride height when you lower your car, such as when installing lowering springs

Kit works with 2004+ Mazda 3 and 2007+ Mazdaspeed 3 using stock suspension, stock shocks w/lowering springs, or aftermarket shocks such as the Koni FSD dampers.

Our kits can be configured to meet your needs. Use the "Customize Your Item" menu to configure your kit. A "Full" kit will include:

  • Two 47mm front bump stops
  • Two plastic adapters for front shocks
  • Two 76mm "Red" rear bump stops

For those who wish to keep the bump stops positively located inside the front strut mount or rear upper shock mount (our bump stops "float" on the shock shaft normally), a user on the Mazdaspeed Forums came up with a clever solution, inserting sections of a 1 1/2" PVC pipe coupler in the shock mounts to help hold the smaller circumference bump stop in the mount. Gorilla Glue can be used to retain the coupler to the mount, but we don't recommend gluing the bump stop to the mount itself as the material needs flexibility to compress during operation.

    Description

Partnering with Fat Cat Motorsports allowed us access to their proven engineering and techniques on how to custom tune your suspension by way of bump stops. When the average person thinks about suspension, they think springs, shocks, and bushings. Bumpstops are the "cushion" between the shock body and the shock mount, without them the metal shock body would come in contact with the metal shock mount during full shock compression causing damage, and a terrible ride! The factories take bumpstops into consideration, however they tune them to be used with factory shocks and springs and often use inferior materials like rubber (which is unforgiving when compressed) or lower quality MCU (micro-cell urethanes) which can't handle the thermal loads as the higher quality MCU bump stops we use. When you start customizing your suspension by replacing the shocks and springs, the factory bumpstops now become mis-matched to the rest of your suspension. Most people will try and reuse the factory bumpstops, but this will not yield optimal handling characteristics because of the now lower and shorter suspension travel plus lower bump stop quality. When you upgrade your springs and shocks to lower your car or if you simply want to improve the handling and durability of your stock suspension, bumpstops can be the "missing link" in your suspension that you never thought of!
